fifa stands by artificial turf for women\'s world cup

A fifa official confirmed to Canadian media on Tuesday that despite growing opposition to synthetic surfaces, the 2015 Women\'s World Cup is expected to be held entirely on artificial turf.
\"In competition regulations and game laws, artificial lawns can be used for any international competition, including FIFA World Cup qualifiers, and are used for such competitions, tatjana Haenni, deputy director of the competition division of FIFA\'s governing body, said.
More than 40 women\'s soccer stars from around the world have threatened to sue FIFA for claiming gender inequality.
The problem now is that a World Cup match for men has never been played on the field.
Next summer, Canada will host the Women\'s World Cup in six cities.
Haenni told Canadian media that a consultant has been hired to ensure the quality of the lawn at the stadiums in Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Montreal and Moncton.
Led by American football icons Abby wanbach and Alex Morgan, the group claimed that the debate on the lawn was not only about equality, but also about safety.
